    Foreign nationals wishing to invest and become a resident ofGermany must comply with immigration laws related toself-employment, by taking up an economic activity in alocal municipality. Investors are required to eitherestablish their own company or invest a significant amountin a German company.

    Visa holders can obtain a three-year residence permit which can be extended to a permanent residence permit once applicants prove their business is successful. A residence permit can be extended to spouses and underage children or other dependent family members.

    A permanent residence permit is possible after three years if company still running and in a good financial position. Residency can also open the path to citizenship. For a resident to become a citizen you must be a legal resident of Germany for at least 8 years.
